How To Keep Your Customers

Below are some top tips on how to keep your customers happy.

  • Always return calls as soon as you can. Generally speaking, most people will prefer you to communicate with them even if you are calling to turn a job down or calling without an answer to their enquiry. It is much better to call a customer back and tell them that you don’t have the answer to their problem yet, but you are working on it and will call again when you have the answer than not to reply to their call for a few days. They may well call one of your competitors while they wait for your call!
  • If you are running behind schedule and you are going to be late for a job always ring your customer to tell them. Preferably as early as you can, so they can rearrange their plans if need be
  • Ask your customer to put in writing what they want you to do
  • Before you start on a job, go through everything with the customer so they know exactly what you plan to do
  • Be patient with elderly and vulnerable customers
  • Before you start working in a customers house, you must make sure you have adequate liability insurance
  • Whenever you install an appliance with controls, always explain to the customer how to use it and leave them with all of the product’s literature.
  • Always make sure you are smart and have a professional appearance
  • Take identification with you as proof of your competency in the required areas of your profession.
  • When you have finished a job, always look back and check that you have left the customers home clean and tidy. If you have accidentally left dirty footprints on your customer’s carpet, it is better to be honest and offer to pay for the carpet to be cleaned than to try and cover it up or ignore it. Most people will appreciate your honesty. You are more likely to lose a customer for being untidy or dishonest.
