The Energy Awards marked the culmination of a fantastic year of award wins after Schneider Electric collected the top prize for the ‘education and awareness’ category at the inaugural event.
New for 2011, the Energy Awards took place on Thursday 1 December at St Paul’s London, in a glittering ceremony attended by 300 of the energy industry’s key players. The awards recognise and reward both supply and demand-side excellence within the energy sector for carbon reduction and energy efficiency, energy supply, brokering and products and services.
Beating off stiff competition, Schneider Electric was selected as the winner of the ‘education and awareness’ award in recognition of its ‘Energy Matters’ internal communications campaign. The pioneering project employed a number of tactics including open days, an intranet site and an online training website, to increase awareness of energy efficiency with employees. As a result, the company halved its CO2 emissions in the same year.
Mark Jones, Energy Manager at Schneider Electric, comments: “As the global specialists in energy management with an overriding ethos of ‘make the most of your energy’, we take our internal approach to energy usage very seriously. While our ‘Energy Matters’ campaign was a serious business investment, the results have been unprecedented, helping to not only significantly reduce our energy consumption but really engage and enthuse our employees on the issue.”
He adds: “As the first awards of its kind, we were absolutely thrilled to find out we had won and we would like to thank all of our employees for their drive and dedication, without which this wouldn’t have been possible.”
